Travel to Durango, Colorado for a visit with award-winning author Will Hobbs. He talks about "Jason's Gold," "Downriver" and about the many influences in his writing life.

Questions for classroom discussion and assignments:
- Will Hobbs lives in Colorado. He mentions three other states that meet the border of his state. Look at a United States map and locate these states. Then find your own state and see what it borders. How much do you know about those bordering states? Discuss them with the class and write a report on your bordering states.
- The author explains that writing comes from research and experience. After reading several of Will Hobb’s books, research some of the places he writes about, such as the Grand Canyon and Alaska. Write a short report on your research.
- Will Hobbs has a common thread in his books. He says: “Take care of the land.” “Take care of yourself.” “Take care of each other.” Talk about these thoughts and write about what they mean.
