Questions for classroom discussion and assignments:
- Katherine Paterson gives viewers a tour of her home. Take this opportunity to give a written tour of your own home. Describe sights, smells and sounds, furniture, the pictures on the walls, and what happens in each room.
- Imagery is the use of vivid descriptions to create pictures in the reader’s mind. Take a common noun such as a “tree,” “water” or “hamburger” and write a descriptive essay about it. Use exciting, descriptive language — and each of your five senses — to help make the object come alive for the reader.
