Questions for classroom discussion and assignments:
- Sid Fleischman talks about writing a book on magic. In the book, he explains how to actually do magic tricks. Write clear and easy-to-understand directions on how to do something, such as playing a game, reaching a destination in town, preparing a favorite lunch.
- The author tells viewers a lot about his life. In this exercise, you’ll create a chart about yourself. You can put your picture at the center, and surround it by facts about your life and personality. When the chart is completed, use this information to write a narrative about who you are.
- The author says that writers live solitary lives. Your class can brainstorm two lists: One list will be people who work by themselves, the second list will be people who work with others. Then write a short essay about which list of jobs appeals to you most — and why.
